STREETWIZER — AI-driven litter intelligence for cities
Streetwizer helps cities reduce litter using smartphone photos and advanced AI analysis. Instead of limited manual counts, we create a complete picture of what is happening in public space—fast, scalable, and evidence-based.
Our method is built on the world’s most detailed litter dataset: ten years of systematically tagged photos collected by litter-researcher Dirk Groot (Zwerfinator). This unique foundation allows our AI to recognize materials, packaging types, brands, and locations with unmatched precision.
Trained researchers – either our team or municipal staff after a one-day training, survey fixed routes several times per year. Thousands of photos are analysed automatically, producing clear insights into litter volumes, hotspots, trends, and sources.
Cities use Streetwizer to move from reactive cleaning to targeted interventions and long-term solutions. The result: smarter policy, better cooperation with stakeholders, and measurable reductions in litter – often exceeding 50%.
What municipalities can do with the results
With Streetwizer data, municipalities can:
– make concrete agreements with major litter contributors such as fast-food chains and monitor compliance over time
– better steer and deploy their own cleaning teams using factual hotspot data
– structurally involve and motivate litter-picking volunteers by showing where their impact is greatest
– make evidence-based agreements with schools and supermarkets
– determine exactly where bins are needed – and where they are not – cutting costs
From insight to action, and from action to accountability.
